Deep into the heat here. We are having a few really hot days (35+ Celsius) and definitely more challenging having to do all the jobs that make up Suryavana life. Shopping trips. Topping up the water tank. Repairs. Cleaning the pool etc.
Right now Jesu, my wife, is on retreat which is a big thing. Being “at home” in Suryavana on an Ordination i.e. serious retreat, with some 18/20 women. 10 days of not doing family life. I am really pleased for her. She is helping me out too by keeping an eye on Suryavana.
I am over in the village in our “spare” house, looking after my daughter Satya and our friend Hadayasiri’s daughter, Flor. The idea is that they look after each other. I do the cooking and washing up and we go to the pool. Walk the dog etc.
This summer I get to offer some yoga and Meditation (Mindfulness) classes in the village, which I have been wanting to do for years. I love teaching. The students are appreciative. It’s had the interesting side-effect of making me more conscious of my demeanour in the village. I find myself choosing a smarter shirt to go walk the dog!
I benefit from teaching, both the discipline and having to expound the common sense virtues of practice.
Coming soon, (one more retreat to go) we are doing a family trip over to the UK which I am looking forward to. To visit the “grandparents“. A well-earned break!
All the best
